2025年1月28日（火）東京科学大学大岡山キャンパスにて、産学協働プログラム「Hybrid Innovation (HI) 2024」のセッション8を開催しました。
このプログラムは、英国ロンドン芸術大学Central Saint Martins校 (CSM) と共同開発したオリジナルメソッドに基づき、講義・実践ワークショップ・ファシリテーション等を組み込んで全10セッションを提供しています。

セッション8では、前半にロンドン研修の振り返り、後半にはHIプラクティスのプロトタイピングを行いました。

まずはロンドン研修に参加した人達からの共有を通して、それぞれが現地で得た気づきや学びを再確認。都市空間、ミュージアム、展示、そして人々のふるまいに触れる中で得たインスピレーションが、どのように今後のアイデアに活かされるのかを言語化する時間となりました。

後半は、PROTOTYPE Inc.の渡辺さんをゲストにお迎えし、実践的なプロトタイピングの手法についてレクチャーを受けました。渡辺さんはクリエイティブの現場で培った経験をもとに、「なぜプロトタイピングをするのか」「どんな視点で形にしていくか」など、思考と実装を往復する際の重要な視点を紹介してくれました。

プロトタイプには、形や機能を確かめるだけではない“概念のプロトタイピング”という考え方。プロダクトやシステムの仕組みを可視化することを通じて、自分たちのアイデアが本当に人に伝わるのか、社会に機能するのかを探るための“試作”があるという視点は、チームにとっても大きなヒントとなりました。

その後のアクティビティでは、各チームが現在進行中のアイデアをベースに、プロトタイプの制作に着手。紙や模型、3D、映像、身体表現など、表現方法はチームによってさまざまでしたが、どのグループも“伝えるためのかたち”を模索する、密度の高い時間となりました。

On Tuesday, January 28, 2025, Session 8 of the industry-academia collaboration program “Hybrid Innovation (HI) 2024” was held at the Institute of Science Tokyo.

Based on an original methodology developed in collaboration with Central Saint Martins (CSM) at the University of the Arts London, this program offers a total of 10 sessions that incorporate lectures, hands-on workshops, and facilitation.

In Session 8, the first half was devoted to reflecting on the HI London tour, whilst the second half involved prototyping for the HI Practice.

We began by hearing from those who had taken part in the HI London tour, allowing everyone to reaffirm the insights and lessons they had gained whilst there. It was an opportunity to articulate how the inspiration drawn from experiencing urban spaces, museums, exhibitions and people’s behaviour could be applied to future ideas.

In the second half, we welcomed Mr Watanabe from PROTOTYPE Inc. as a guest speaker, who gave a lecture on practical prototyping techniques. Drawing on his experience in the creative field, Mr Watanabe introduced key perspectives for navigating the back-and-forth between conceptualisation and implementation, addressing questions such as ‘why do we prototype?’ and ‘from what perspective should we give form to our ideas?’.

He introduced the concept of ‘concept prototyping’, which goes beyond simply verifying form and function. The perspective that ‘prototyping’ serves to explore whether our ideas truly resonate with people and function within society by visualising the mechanisms of products and systems proved to be a significant insight for the teams.

In the subsequent activity, each team began creating prototypes based on their current ideas. Whilst the methods of expression varied from team to team—ranging from paper and models to 3D, video and physical performance—it was an intense session in which every group sought to find a ‘form that communicates’.
