2024年11月12日（火）東京科学大学大岡山キャンパスにて、産学協働プログラム「Hybrid Innovation (HI) 2024」のセッション3を開催しました。


このプログラムは、英国ロンドン芸術大学Central Saint Martins校 (CSM) と共同開発したオリジナルメソッドに基づき、講義・実践ワークショップ・ファシリテーション等を組み込んで全10セッションを提供しています。

セッション3では、特別なゲストとしてロンドン芸術大学のNatan Cohen先生と、イギリス在住のアーティストReiko Kubotaさんをお迎えしました。今回のテーマは「美の基準とは何か」。参加者は、コラージュや立体造形のアクティビティを通して、美の基準やその価値について探求しました。
最初のアクティビティでは、参加者は各グループに与えられたテーマに沿ってコラージュ制作に取り組みました。各グループは話し合いを通じてアイデアを膨らませ、美的感覚を表現した作品を作り上げました。その後、制作したコラージュの発表と講評会が行われ、Cohen先生とKubotaさんからフィードバックを受けることで、美の多様な解釈について理解を深めました。


次のアクティビティでは、機能性と美しさの両方を兼ね備えた立体造形に挑戦しました。参加者はグループで協力し、形と実用性のバランスを追求しながら作品を制作しました。この課題を通して、単なる見た目の美しさだけでなく、実用的な要素を含む「機能美」についても考える機会が得られました。後半のHIプラクティスでは、様々なアイディアを掛け合わせて議論とアイデアの幅を広げるアクティビティを行いました。参加者は、イノベーションの種となる素材や要素を組み合わせ、新しいアイデアを生み出すための試行を重ねました。今回はまだアイデアを広げる段階であり、次回のセッションでは、これらのアイデアを精査し、精度を高める作業に取り組んでいきます。今回のセッションを通して、参加者はアートとデザインの視点から美の基準について考え、自らの感覚を表現するスキルを培いました。次回も、さらなる実践的なアプローチを通して、新たな視点とスキルを習得していきます。

On Tuesday, November 12, 2024, Session 3 of the industry-academia collaboration program “Hybrid Innovation (HI) 2024” was held at the Institute of Science Tokyo.

Based on an original methodology developed in collaboration with Central Saint Martins (CSM) at the University of the Arts London, this program offers a total of 10 sessions that incorporate lectures, hands-on workshops, and facilitation.

For Session 3, we were delighted to welcome Dr. Natan Cohen from the University of the Arts London and Reiko Kubota, an artist based in the UK, as special guests. The theme for this session was ‘What are the standards of beauty?’. Through activities involving collage and three-dimensional art, participants explored standards of beauty and their value.

In the first activity, participants worked on creating collages based on themes assigned to each group. Through discussion, each group developed their ideas and produced works that expressed their aesthetic sensibilities. This was followed by a presentation and critique session for the collages, where feedback from Cohen and Kubota helped deepen the participants’ understanding of the diverse interpretations of beauty.

In the next activity, participants took on the challenge of creating three-dimensional sculptures that combined both functionality and beauty. Working collaboratively in groups, they produced pieces whilst seeking a balance between form and practicality. This task provided an opportunity to consider not only visual beauty but also ‘functional beauty’, which incorporates practical elements. In the latter part of the HI practice session, we conducted an activity designed to broaden the scope of discussion and ideas by combining various concepts. Participants combined materials and elements that could serve as seeds for innovation, repeatedly experimenting to generate new ideas. As this session was still at the stage of broadening ideas, the next session will focus on scrutinising these ideas and refining them. Through this session, participants reflected on standards of beauty from the perspectives of art and design, and cultivated the skills to express their own sensibilities. In the next session, we will continue to acquire new perspectives and skills through further practical approaches.
