2024年10月22日（火）東京科学大学大岡山キャンパスにて、産学協働プログラム「Hybrid Innovation (HI) 2024」のセッション2を開催しました。
このプログラムは、英国ロンドン芸術大学Central Saint Martins校 (CSM) と共同開発したオリジナルメソッドに基づき、講義・実践ワークショップ・ファシリテーション等を組み込んで全10セッションを提供しています。
感覚をテーマに行われたセッション２では東京科学大学の早水裕平准教授をゲストに迎えて開催されました。早水先生は、臭いを数値化する研究を通じて、アートとサイエンスの融合を図っており、その知見を基にしたアクティビティーと講義を行いました。
アクティビティーでは臭気判定士が国家試験で使われるものと同じものを使用し、参加者に匂いの違いを判断できるかテストし、それぞれに感覚の数値化をしてもらいました。また、その後のアクティビティーでは、将来発明されるであろう匂いのデバイスがどのようなイノベーションに繋がるかディスカッションを行い、科学が生み出すまだみぬ未来と、それに適応する未来の社会を考えました。講義では再戦隊の匂いと科学の話を早水先生から聞き、感覚を数値化することのポテンシャルの高さと、すでに国外で行われている感覚に関連したビジネスの実例を聞くなど、参加者は、アートとサイエンスが交差する場所で新しい発見が生まれる可能性について学びました。HIプラクティスでは、グルーピングが行われ、セッション２で伝えられたテーマとロケーションにプラスして、各グループに架空の企業プロファイルが付け加えられました。これによって、これから行うアイディア出しと、プロトタイピングにより現実味を持たせ、レクチャーで学んだことを活かしながら新たなイノベーションの可能性を探っていきます。

On Tuesday, October 22, 2024, Session 2 of the industry-academia collaboration program “Hybrid Innovation (HI) 2024” was held at the Institute of Science Tokyo.
Based on an original methodology developed in collaboration with Central Saint Martins (CSM) at the University of the Arts London, this program offers a total of 10 sessions that incorporate lectures, hands-on workshops, and facilitation.
Session 2, themed around the senses, featured Associate Professor Yuhei Hayamizu of Institute of Science Tokyo as a guest speaker. Through his research on quantifying odors, Professor Hayamizu seeks to fuse art and science, and he conducted activities and a lecture based on his insights.
In the activity, participants used the same equipment as that used in the national certification exam for odor assessors to test their ability to distinguish between different smells and assign numerical values to their sensory perceptions. In a subsequent activity, participants discussed what kind of innovations future odor-detection devices might lead to, contemplating the unseen future created by science and the future society that will adapt to it. In the lecture, Professor Hayamizu spoke about the intersection of scent and science. Participants learned about the high potential of quantifying sensory experiences and heard real-world examples of sensory-related businesses already operating overseas. They explored the possibility of new discoveries emerging at the intersection of art and science. In the HI Practice session, participants were divided into groups. In addition to the themes and locations introduced in Session 2, each group was assigned a fictional company profile. This approach adds realism to the upcoming brainstorming and prototyping activities, allowing participants to explore new possibilities for innovation while applying what they learned in the lecture.
