Free online “Code Biased” movie screening and panel discussion

The movie CODED BIAS by Shalini Kantayya explores the fallout of MIT media lab researcher Joy Buolamwini’s startling discovery that facial recognition does not see dark-skinned faces accurately, and her journey to push for the first-ever legislation in the U.S. to govern against bias in the algorithms that impact us all.

Algorithmic bias can affect anyone. To increase awareness of this phenomenon, we are hosting a free virtual screening of Coded Bias through the Women Techmakers Program and Tokyo Institute of Technology’s Online Education Development Office from January 22 to 24, 2021 Japan time. This will be followed by a panel discussion with AI ethics movers in Japan on January 25, 2021 from 7:30PM to 9:00PM Japan time. You can mingle with other film viewers and AI ethics enthusiasts in raising questions for the panel discussion every 8:00PM to 8:30PM Japan time during the screening days. Please refer to the flyer for more details.

The slots are limited to 100 and we will be giving priority to students who can join our panel discussion as well. If selected, we will be sending you the watch links on January 20, 2021. Registration is open until January 18, 2021.
