In Nohara’s laboratory, we carry out various research and education activities with translation as the keyword. Our base is translation studies. This is a transdisciplinary field which is strongly connected to linguistics, semantics, communication studies etc..
If we share science with the society using media ingeniously, it creates science communication.
If we adapt our technology to different cultures, and if we choose alternative futures, the design will also change.
If we translate science with sensitivity, art will be born.
Professor Nohara obtained her doctorate degree in England. Presently, she engages in research guidance in Tokyo Institute of Technology. Her focus is not only on the translation between languages but also on the translation between a broad range of media. She works together with artists, designer, editors, museums, art schools and also private companies. By working with people in various fields, she is creating platforms for interactions and debate between science / technology, society, and art / design. Nohara lab functions as an interface which promotes hybrid thinking and knowledge
