Linux Farungsang bags Best Presentation Award in the AOTULE 2021 Student Workshop

Linux Farungsang, currently in his second year of Masters, won the Best Presentation Award in the Asia-Oceania Top University League on Engineering (AOTULE) 2021 Multidisciplinary International Student Workshop (MISW) hosted by KAIST College of Engineering.  AOTULE, founded in 2007, is a league of thirteen premiere engineering universities in the Asia-Oceania region.

Linux is a member of Tokimatsu Laboratory, led by Assoc. Prof. Koji Tokimatsu. He is also affiliated with the GUC lab and co-advised by Alvin. The title of his presentation was “Assessment of Rooftop Solar Photovoltaic Potential based on Machine Learning and GIS Spatial Analysis in Bangkok, Thailand”.

Through GUC lab, Linux advances his work on the building-footprint detection using the ArcGIS deep learning tools. The building footprints are needed to estimate the potential of solar photovoltaics in the region. He will continue his work in his doctors, where he plans to improve the methodology and expand the scope of the work. His work has strong contributions to solving various issues of society, such as clean energy, and mitigation/adaptation to future climate.

Linux’s work exemplifies the need for transdisciplinary fields of study.

Official articles of the event written by Tokyo Tech and KAIST can be found here and here.

Congratulations, Linux!
