Welcoming the GSEP 2018 freshmen

The new academic year has begun, and the third batch of GSEP students have finally joined Tokyo Tech. The official start of their lives in Tokyo Tech was began last April 3, 2018. An entrance ceremony was held in the morning for all freshmen of Tokyo Tech with the presence of the newly elected president, Prof. Kazuya Masu.

In the afternoon, the 1st year GSEP students were welcomed by the TSE faculty, GSEP staff, and the upper-level GSEP students. At the Creative Commons room, an orientation was held starting with welcome speeches from the newly appointed Dean of School of Environment and Society, Prof. Norihiro Nakai, the newly appointed chair of the Department of Transdisciplinary Science and Engineering, Prof. Kunio Takahashi, vice-chair, Prof. Jun-ichi Takada, and the TSE faculty and staff. Leaders of prestigious circles catering to international students also introduced them to the extra-curricular opportunities of being an international student of Tokyo Tech. Ms. Mao Watanabe from SAGE; and Mr. Kevin Brown from TISA gave a brief introduction of their organizations.

After receiving detailed instructions and finalizing admissions forms, the new students were treated to a lively party held later in the evening in one of the large rooms of the campus. There were self-introductions, food, non-alocoholic drinks, a gameshow, and talented performances from the GSEP 2nd year and 3rd year students.

On behalf of the department, we welcome our new students to Tokyo Tech! We hope they will have a fruitful and memorable time here. Special thanks to all the students, tutors, staffs, and faculty members who contributed to the event’s success.
