GSEP students are also TSE department students

DSCN2342縮小On April 22, 2017, a class of “Introduction of International Development” was held for the 2nd year students of the Department of Transdisciplinary Science and Engineering, including GSEP students.  Mr. Koji Morio of the Urban Development Department of Nippon Koei Ltd., one of the internationally well-known Japanese engineering consultant companies, was invited as the lecturer.  He has been engaging in engineering consulting business in South East Asian countries for many years and gave a very inspiring lecture about engineering consulting to our students.  Nine Japanese students together with the 1st batch of GSEP students attended the lecture.

Based on the lecture materials, the students were given a task of doing presentation on solving urban traffic issues in South East Asian countries.  They were asked to select one city and then analyze the problems in a group.  They shared ideas on proposing short-term, mid-term, and long-term solutions. Moreover, the students discussed on how Japan can contribute to it by presenting charts, pictures, and other relevant data.  After the students presented their results in class, Mr. Morio gave his feedback and summary. It was a very fruitful opportunity for both GSEP and Japanese students to bond, discuss, and research together.
