Company Visit of GSEP Students to
Nippon Koei Co. Ltd

Our brilliant students took a break from schoolwork and traveled to the east of Tokyo to visit one of Japan’s reputable engineering consulting firm, Nippon Koei Co. Ltd. The firm boasts of over six decades of experience in project management handling various infrastructure projects all over the world. The students under Global Scientists and Engineers Program (GSEP) of Tokyo Tech are being groomed to become future engineers that will be prime movers in their own respective fields. They will need all the motivation and inspiration that they can get while they are studying in Japan and a glimpse of the Nippon Koei project portfolio and operations might just be able to give them that. The visit to the office of Nippon Koei located in Kudanshita, gave the GSEP students a chance to talk with professional engineers and see the operations first-hand of a top-notch engineering consulting firm. This experience gave them a proper perspective of what they can also become in the future.

The group was welcomed by Mr. Toshiyuki Ujiie, acting Senior General Manager of Transportation and Urban Development Division of Nippon Koei, and Mr. Koji Morio of the Urban Development Dept. gave the company orientation. From the Tokyo Tech side, the GSEP students introduced themselves one by one to the Nippon Koei members. Consultants from Nippon Koei, Mr. Kenichiro Yoshida (Urban Development Dept.) and Mr. Hiroki Yoshikawa (Water Supply & Sewerage Dept.) also presented a few of their company’s on-going projects. A reception party followed shortly after their presentation where both parties had more chance to talk and mingle.

With the full support of the GSEP lecturers and professors, including Prof. Naoya Abe, Prof. Kunio Takahashi, Program Head of GSEP, Prof. Jun-ichi Takada, Transdisciplinary Science and Engineering Department Chair (Undergraduate), and Dean of the School of Environment and Society of the Tokyo Institute of Technology, Prof. Kikuo Kishimoto, the GSEP students had a great time learning and networking with the engineers and professionals from Nippon Koei.  To read more about their first-hand experiences during the company visit, please click on their names below:
