The Cross Lab is located at the Ookayama Campus of the Tokyo Institute of Technology in Tokyo, Japan. The Cross' Lab is part of the School of Environment and Society in the Department of Transdisciplinary Science and Engineering, also affiliated with the Graduate Major in Energy Science and Engineering, Department of Materials Science and Engineering, and Global Engineering for Development Environment and Society.

After completing a Ph.D in Chemical Engineering at Iowa State University, Dr. Cross traveled to Tsukuba, Japan in 1993, as a US National Science Foundation (NSF)- Japan Science and Technology Agency (STA) postdoctoral fellow to NIRIM (now NIMS) to research plasma thin film deposition of boron oxide. In 1994, he received a two year US NSF - Center for Global Partnership (CGP) postdoctoral fellowship to do research at Fujitsu Laboratories, Ltd. in Atsugi Japan, on high dielectric materials (PMN-PT). From 1996 - 2008, he worked as a staff researcher and group leader at Fujitsu Labs on ferroelectric random access memory, where he developed metal oxide electrode technology (SrRuO3) and collaborated with overseas universities on ferroelectric memory cell reliability modeling. In addition, he also taught undergraduate, materials reliability engineering, and graduate courses in the Chemical Engineering and Ceramics Science dept. at Tokyo Tech as an, Adjunct Prof. from 2002-2008. From 2008 to 2016, Jeffrey was a Prof. at Tokyo Tech in the School of Engineering conducting research, supervising students, developing research exchange programs and teaching. In 2014, Jeffrey became edX project manager to develop MOOCs, where manages the online education development office which has 5 staff. In 2016, he became a Professor and Graduate Coordinator in the Energy Science and Engineering Graduate Program. Jeffrey participates in numerous committees on international programs, co-chairs the summer exchange program committee and serves as the secretariat for the UK-Japan Engineering Education League. Further information is in his Biosketch.
In his spare time, Jeffrey enjoys reading, internet surfing, hiking and volunteers as a Boy Scout troop leader in Machida, Tokyo. |
