Last July 3 to 4, Hiroki and Alvin was invited to talk about their collaborative works with Assoc. Prof. Florent Renard and Dr. Lucille Alonso at the recently held “International Workshop on Urban Overheating” held in Lyon, France. The event was organized by CityClimateX, Ingérop, Actierra and the Université Jean Moulin (Lyon III).
Alvin talked about the collaborative work when Lucille and Florent came to visit in Tokyo, related to the heat-risk mapping and comparisons between central Tokyo and central Lyon. Meanwhile, Hiroki talked about his recent work on the estimation of the UTCI trends using various scales of observation and modeled datasets over Japan.

The talks were mainly held on the 1st day. During the 2nd day, the group was divided into two: group discussion on setting up a collaborative network, group field trip at critical infrastructures that directly relate with the thermal comfort over Lyon.
The event was also held in perfect timing when Hiroki is in his exchange visit to Lyon for another collaborative work. It was a great opportunity for him to experience speaking to an audience of various interests, professions, and backgrounds. It was challenging to speak simply the findings of his work for a more general audience. In the end, he succeeded in relaying the message across.
He will be in France unitl September, when he will continue revising an on-going paper with the collaboration of Florent and Lucille. Simultaneously, they are conducting observations of thermal comfort with the help of the French local citizens.
Good luck and bon voyage, Hiroki!
