On Tuesday, January 7, 2025, Session 7 of the industry-academia collaboration program \u201cHybrid Innovation (HI) 2024\u201d was held at the Institute of Science Tokyo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Based on an original methodology developed in collaboration with Central Saint Martins (CSM) at the University of the Arts London, this program offers a total of 10 sessions that incorporate lectures, hands-on workshops, and facilitation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Session 7, the first of 2025, aimed to refine each team\u2019s project and finalise their design briefs whilst revisiting the fundamental elements of \u2018Regenerative Design\u2019. It proved to be a crucial session for building on the progress made in previous sessions and preparing to move on to the next stage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the first half of the session, we reviewed the fundamental elements of Regenerative Design and examined how these were reflected in each team\u2019s project. By keeping these core elements in mind, the focus of each team\u2019s project became clearer, enabling us to further refine the content of the design briefs, which were nearing completion. This allowed us to re-evaluate the challenges and potential of each project and clarify the path forward to the next step.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the second half, we conducted an activity modelled on the design critique sessions typically held at art universities. Each group exchanged views on one another\u2019s projects, gaining new perspectives and feedback on their own work. By rotating between multiple groups, participants learned from other teams\u2019 approaches and ways of thinking, whilst incorporating constructive feedback to further enhance the quality of their projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The design critique served not only as a forum for receiving feedback but also as an opportunity for participants to learn from one another through the exchange of views with other groups. This resulted in an improvement not only in the individual projects but also in the quality of the programme as a whole.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During this session, each team\u2019s design brief neared completion. In future sessions, prototype production will commence based on these design briefs. By bringing the projects to life, we aim to verify their feasibility and pursue further development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
